Product Review: EzyDog Cujo Leash

Back in October, I was approached by EzyDog to check out one of their products, the Cujo leash. Intrigued by the design and always willing to try new things I said "yes please!" and "send one on over!"

I chose the 25 inch Cujo shock absorbing leash, as that is (in the product description) the recommended length for medium to large sized dogs. I also chose red, because that's Elka's color!

The Cujo is a nifty leash. 25 inches is a bit shorter than you might think, and I definitely prefer it on Elka's harness (the EzyDog Chest Plate Harness, in fact! Perhaps it could be said that we are accessorizing?) rather than her neck. It does, however, deliver. "Shock absorbing" is not an empty promise; though I reminded Elka she was on a "short leash", she still decided she was going to step further away, and when she was brought up short, I didn't move at all. It didn't seem to jar her all that much either which is a big plus.

(of course, I say I preferred it on her harness, and then only got collar pictures that focused on the wrong thing in the frame. Sigh. Ah well, nobody comes here for the photography)

The Cujo has been good for those super-quick (it's COLD, okay) run outside so Elka can pee trips. No dilly-dallying, it's even got reflective stuff for nighttime when the neighbors may not be so carefully pulling into the driveway.

The one thing I dislike about it is the rigid handle. I feel less secure holding something stiff like that, versus a "regular" soft leather leash's handle. But, I haven't run into any issues with the handle, and the grip itself has a soft-ish kind of foam give to it which is very comfortable. I think this is a good leash for things like a field trip to Tractor Supply, or maybe PetCo (we haven't done that yet)!

All in all, I (and the household) really dig the Cujo leash. I feel comfortable that it is of sturdy enough construction to stand up to Elka, it's just the right color, and it's of a quality make that I can rely on EzyDog to provide.

FTC Disclosure: EzyDog sent me the Cujo leash for review, but did not otherwise compensate me for this post.

  1. I've seen a few reviews of this leash. I'm not sure when it's most useful. I thought it might be helpful when I'm walking an unruly foster dog with Honey. But I wonder if the short length might cause more problems than the shock absorber solves.

Did you think it's a reasonable substitute for your regular leash? Or just for use in close quarters like a store?

    1. I don't think I'd be comfortable just using it all the time as my regular leash. As a traffic leash or in a store, I think it would be great. But for walking all the time? Maybe if I was really really working on heel specifically (not loose leash, as the shock-absorby nature of it seems like it would maintain enough tension to render that concept moot with a lot of feedback). I like being a little more relaxed than that.
