I frequently take photos of Elka, but don't really have pictures of her with anybody. It's kind of a relief, actually, after having read this book! Not a single Doberman is in Awkward Family Pet Photos, which either means we Doberman owners are less likely to be quite that stripe of pet owner, or that Dobermans are less likely to truck with that sort of wackiness. There is, notably, a Rottweiler on a roof.
The cats in many of the pictures are the face of terror, but the snakes are pretty chill. I also wonder if one particular Santa-for-dogs made it home that day without a fear bite; he's face to face with a dog showing a fair amount of "whale eye".
We take pictures like this, and dress our pets up, and take them to see Santa, because we love them. To some, it might seem twisted or misplacing child-love onto a pet instead. I don't know if this is necessarily the case, or prevalently, anyway. But our pets bring out a certain love that, in some cases, may otherwise go untapped. This book, hilarious as it is (and it is hilarious. You can trust me) gives us a window into that love.
In addition to getting a copy of this book early, to tell you fine people about, I've also got the privilege to host a giveaway (two in a row, I'm on a roll!). I saw a fellow blogger (Tales and Tails, if you want to give them a visit!) ask readers for their awkward photos, in order to enter. I think it's a fine idea, but picking the best picture is far harder than having Elka pick a name! So, you have from today, Thursday, November 3, until Saturday, November 6 at 11:59 pm to leave me a comment!
