I guess Elka's used to the new couch?

So, Elka's on the red couch more and more. Which is fine; as I've stated over and over, we are a Dogs on Furniture household.

What's funny to me is her habits with the couch, the pillows, and her toys. Most of her proclivities, I find pretty adorable, and it's always interesting to me to see what habits and preferences she'll develop (as near as I can tell) on her own.

If she has one Gumby on the couch, she finds another to bring there.

She does this with her Bad Cuz toys as well. We also musn't forget to mention the "God, why are you taking my picture again?" look.

She frequently lays with her head on a toy.

There's also the "bundle of paws" sleeping method (combined with The Look)

We frequently find her with her head on the pillow, if she hasn't tossed them all unceremoniously to the floor. This one's a colder weather example, apologies. She also will put the blanket on herself. It's been anything but cold here, glorious summer!

Here's a pillow shot, with Gumby of course.

Does your dog use pillows "like a person"? Does your dog arrange toys (though this is sometimes a "Doberman thing", from what I can tell, and can perhaps be indication of an OCD thing, if it is in fact obsessive.).

  1. Elka has made herself right at home on your couch. Beamer likes to rest his head on pillows too, which I think is totally adorable. He doesn't usually like to hoard his toys. Maybe because I tend to keep them on his crate and rotate them (my house is huge and I think he'd lose all his toys in a matter of hours if I left them all out for him). I had most of his toys out today and they've all made their way into my bedroom and he's sleeping next to them as I write this.

  2. Elka, the expert super contortionist. Peanuts was a couch dog. She never rips it apart. When we brought the couch to my brother's house, she just stared at the couch's spot wondering why it wasn't there anymore.I felt guilty that I had to take out the one we were keeping.

    1. I know, the "bundle of paws" always cracks me up!

Some of the pillows, when Elka was a puppy, bot chewed. Never since, though.

    1. I've watched Elka circle and readjust for up to ten minutes, trying to figure out how to curl up entirely on just one of the throw pillows. Alas, she is slightly too large.

  4. Gizmo does use pillows like a person and occasionally brings a toy up with him, but the funniest thing he does is with his dog bed...some days he curls up in it but then some days he burrows under his dog bed and knocks it on the floor...i have no idea what he's up to with that

    1. I wonder sometimes if Elka actually wants the pillows ON her, but lacks the coordination, and that's why they're on the floor. Maybe it's Gizmo's deal as well? Who knows!

  5. My dogs are convinced that any pillow, bed or throw, is something I brought into the house just for their comfort. I love Elka's toy line up.

    1. She can't have a Kong on the couch, certainly, whether it's been stuffed recently or not. No chew type treats either (bully sticks and the like). Other toys, though, matter less to us.

  8. Interesting to see Elka's preferences. Honey's pretty easy going. But she does like to sleep with a pillow.

BTW, good choice to get a red couch. It looks gorgeous with a Doberman on it. :)

    1. Oh, we had Elka firmly in mind as we made our way through the store's couch selections ;) We were cracking the sales lady up!

How cute that Honey likes a pillow too!

  9. Indeed, the couch sets off Elka quite well. One of the Dachshunds I'm fostering for two years curls herself up in the blanket on my chair. I'm always careful when sitting or wanting to move it - Angel most likely is hiding in heat and cold.

  10. How cute is she? And all legs based on that 5th picture.

Bella uses pillows pretty much all the time. If she doesn't have a pillow, she will use the arm of the couch or chair or a toy will do. I keep trying to tell her my leg would make a great pillow but she's not buying it. Oh well, maybe someday.

PS - I LOVE that you bought a couch based on your dog.

  11. yup, Sampson has his own pillow on the bed. I think it's the cutest thing to see a dog with their head on a pillow.
