Caution: Area Patrolled by Doberman

So, last Monday, I posted about our new furniture.

In the course of cleaning/organizing/clearing things, we located a sign that our housemate had purchased, but we hadn't hung anywhere just yet. It's so hard to choose where signage should go sometimes.

But, in the interest of display, I put it on top of the light switch in the living room.

When Elka saw it (and she noticed it pretty quick), she decided that sign was a problem. It was coming to kill us.

An interesting thing about the shorthairedness of the Doberman is that when they piloerect, you know. There is no question whether a Doberman is full mohawk or not.

I, being the responsible adult, got out the camera to take pictures, and laughed at her a little as she yodeled at the sign while docked on my knee. Then I told her to leave it, it was all right. I didn't have to repeat myself, for which I am thankful. Sometimes Elka's vocalizations are like those opera singers who can match a note on crystal with their voices, and then shatter it.

But, poor Princess, we just keep playing these crazy human tricks on her! What's next? (oh yeah, painting in a few months....)

  1. What a smart girl! She knew something was "wrong" with this sign. Maybe it wasn't large enough or she missed her picture on the sign? Have a wonderful monday, Elka ;o)

  2. Oh poor Elka, although I probably would have laughed too. Delilah is obsessed with reflections, as soon as a light reflection moves, she's up and on alert. It can actually be quite annoying. I'm glad Elka could leave it and not be stressed about it.

  3. Was she not the model for the sign? Was there a picture of another Doberman in her house? Sounds like Elka's on patrol!! :)

    Wags to all,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  4. Perhaps she felt that other, new Dobermans were coming over to do the patrolling?

Sometimes dogs are just weird about what they notice in their environment.

  7. I think the sign would not be effective with a Poodle or Chihuahua.

  8. I love that she immediately took the sign as a directive rather than accessory. :)

  14. Amazing how dogs notice little changes you wouldn't expect..I've been on a major house reordering binge and Gizmo watches every change carefully, making sure his home remains safe & comfy

  16. Who would've thought a dog would notice a new sign over a light switch? Elka must be super observant, and obviously living up to the warning!
