We got new furniture!

We got new couches. And a new coffee table. Elka, to say in the least, is dismayed.

See, first, we emptied the living room. Took the furniture out. The whole nine. Poor princess had nowhere to lay, and was very disgruntled the entire time.

(please ignore our unsightly Internet wires. They were in a table that is no longer there)

Then, we had her gated in the kitchen while we took the door off of the frame, so the furniture could fit inside in the first place. She whined and yodeled the entire time she was gated in the kitchen and the delivery guys eased the red leather couch through the door. The loveseat, I'm happy to say, fit rather easily, as did the new coffee table when it got here (which they called a cocktail table? I'm not sure what the distinction is supposed to be?).

Then we released the hound.

Well this is new, let's see....

We never really had a big chair here before...

OH GOD DID IT MOVE?!

No, it didn't. Okay, we're fine. Everything's fine.

I sat on the loveseat before they brought the table in (actually, they forgot the table and had to go back to the warehouse for it), and Elka reluctantly docked.

Then, under duress, she got up on the loveseat, while looking at the red couch and looking away, then yawning, then tongue flicking. All lovely canine body language examples of calming signals or appeasement gestures.

Then she yodeled some more as the table arrived, and I signed for the delivery, and we turned her loose again.

She's only gotten on the red leather couch (hitherto known as "the blood couch", for it's distinctive color. Don't worry, it's a good thing. Nobody bled on it) a couple of times, hesitantly. She didn't spend much time there, just tried to cram herself as much on top of the person there as she could, before changing her mind and awkwardly leaping off. This might work in our favor, really, though it's kind of funny she's so awkward about it. The car seats are leather, so it isn't an entirely new surface for her.

Of course, the walls in this room are yellow, so when it's spring and we can do things like have the windows open, we intend to repaint. New shades are also necessary. We could probably use some bookshelves, or twelve, but needn't wait until spring for that, at least.

  1. Nice looking furniture. My dogs always get stressed when I move things around and this sounds like quite the ordeal.

    1. Yes, it was quite an upheaval, with stuff being moved around on multiple days.

    1. She's working on it! She'll get up there on her own, just not stay there comfortably.

  4. Puppies don't always like change, but I bet Elka will warm up to the new furniture. Cocktail table may be expressing the preference of the delivery guys...lol.

    1. Oh, and we were the first delivery for those poor guys! I did wonder what they thought of Elka, yodeling from the kitchen. They never DID see her....

    1. We did reach a point at which I wondered whether Elka smelled like the couch, or the couch smelled like Elka.

  8. Hi Elka,

I'm with you, I hate change when it comes to the furniture, why can't they just leave it all as is - though I do get used to it in a little while :)

    Big wags,

  9. Nice! Was this motivated by Elka's head punch last week? Do you have enough chairs now? LOL.

Maybe she just needs a fleece blanket to keep on that leather couch, so that it won't be cold.

    1. We DO have enough chairs now ;) It was in fact partially motivated by that. The loveseat we had was old when we got it, from a friend who got it third hand or whatever herself. The black couch was new 8 years ago....I guess they just don't make them like they used to. Or we chose poorly when we got it!

  10. Nice! It's fun to get new things, just remember the more you put in there now the more you have to move when it's time to paint. ;-)

    1. We kind of reached a point like that with our other furniture, that it was covered up all the time. I imagine the loveseat will eventually gain a covering, but we're letting it be for now!

  13. That's so funny! Poor dogs get used to a routine and then new furniture arrives! I'm sure she'll get used to it in no time!

Love the blood red by the way and also glad that no deliverymen had to bleed on it to get it that color. Always a good thing. ;)

    1. I admit, I didn't really think about how Elka would feel about the change to the room. Far less floor space, the furniture smells all weird....

I was so very excited when I saw the red in the showroom, I tried not to get my hopes up, certain that my fiance wouldn't go for it. But we christened it "The blood couch" before we even officially committed to it, so I guess I shouldn't have worried!

    1. Yes, we certainly do! We decided even before we brought Elka home that we were "dogs on furniture" people. We're even quite pleased that thus far *knock wood* the leather has seemed completely impervious to her nails as well.

  21. The sofa set arrived quickly in three boxes. It was easy to unpack; however, it took over 2 hours to assemble using picture instructions. It is comfortable and I believe the fabric will wear well. It is versatile in that the chaise can be placed on the left or right. It was exactly the right color (off white) and blended well with color pops of chocolate and ocean blue. For a person who enjoys comfort and contemporary style in neutral tones, this small sofa set is perfect!
