April 8 is Dogfighting Awareness Day

Evidently, April 8 is Dogfighting Awareness Day. I didn't know/remember until I visited the Blogpaws site to get onto the blog hop for Wordless Wednesday.

I should think it goes without saying that dogfighting is a reprehensible act. But clearly it doesn't; there are many, many people out there who think it's perfectly acceptable. Who are culturally mired in it, caught up in it, don't give dogs a thought other than as equipment or a means to an end.

The ASPCA has a portion of their website dedicated to dogfighting awareness; FAQs, a tipline to call if you suspect dogfights in your area, and a form to fill out to send to the Department of Justice. If dogfighting makes you angry, makes you sick, take a couple minutes to have a look at those resources. Even that small thing might make a difference in some dogs' lives.

Statistical Fun

It's been awhile since I've posted about what brings people to the Elka Almanac. Actually, since Google changed the way their searches work, search terms are encrypted now a lot of the time which makes things difficult. For the most part, it seems like my business cards do not, in fact, drive traffic. It's a good way to give people my email address, anyway.

Monday Mischief, January 9 2012

This is going to be one of those posts where mostly,  the only bad thing is my photography! I guess to people who are horrified of dogs on furniture, it's mischievous.

Last week, I did mention that it was so very cold for a few days. The cold makes me sluggish, and lazy, and really, I just wanted to park it on the couch and play video games or watch movies. And Elka, with her love for being warm and snuggling, obliged as well.

First she was under the little fleece blanket as well, but then shifted to this:

2011: The Year in Review

Well. December 31. Time flies, doesn't it?

I started this blog on April 7, with my post Why a Doberman? I think I'll be revisiting that question in the coming year, not because I've changed my mind, but rather because I think I might be able to articulate it further, or better.

Now, 8 months later, I've crossed the 200 post mark. I've got a bunch of followers on Twitter, fewer on Google itself, or that Blogger tells me, anyway. I've come to terms with the face that Blogger's stats are a bit suspect, but that's what I have StatCounter for, right? But, my Blogger stats are from the beginning, and I can at least tell you that I've had 17,472 pageviews. Not visitors (hoo boy, I'm not that popular!), but still. That's a big number!

So, what should my goals be for the coming year?
