Dogs make their own fun

There's no telling what toys Elka will like and play with, and what toys she'll hate.

The Unbreakoball is a great example. It certainly hasn't broken, because she hates it. Hilariously.

She likes squeaky toys now, though. When she was little, she seemed to think she was hurting them, perhaps because of the way we taught her bite inhibition (the yelp 'n' stop playing approach).

Happy Birthday, Elka!

Four years ago today, my little Elka V was born! It's hard to believe that she's four; she's still so much like a puppy. Inquisitive, excitable, full of boundless energy......

Elka's Balls

At the beginning of this blog, I had many many tennis ball posts. I just could not believe how easily tennis balls designed for dogs were destroyed by Elka. Don't these people know? Is it just a cash grab? I still have no answer.

Farewell, Gummy Bear

Well, Elka's Gummy Bear (first seen here, as it was a birthday gift) has gone on to the next world.

Really, it was a tough toy. From May to November? That's a definite squeaky toy record. Most of them are ten minutes. It always makes me wonder, this pet toy people, if they actually have pets or what. Most toys, I can gauge their play life just by handling them in the store. Most of those toys stay at the store.

The gummy bear was rugged, though. And loud.

Gummy Bear!

One of Elka's birthday presents was a squeaky (well, it kind of squawks) gummy bear, manufactured by J.W. Pets. They're the company that makes the "cuz" toys, if you're familiar.

I've heard good things about the cuzs, but also valuable warnings: You see, there are two kinds. One with feet that are easily gnawed off and swallowed, the others not. You might guess which kind was available when I went to the local feed store. So, gummy bear it was!
