I just saw the news on the Illinois Doberman Rescue Facebook page: Xanadu, who I posted about on March 2, has been adopted! Congratulations on your forever home, pretty girl. I hope you and your family have many happy years together!

In Which Elka understands "If you do X, then Y" consequences
I shared this on the Facebook, but figured I'd make a post about it as well to get the most eyes, because obviously I thought it was cool and thought it was further proof of Elka's smartness, dogs' understanding of things, etc.
We had visitors over the weekend, friends who used to come regularly when they lived closer, but who moved at the end of last year. We've seen them only once or twice since the move. Elka is SUPER EXCITED every time people show up, because she loves all our friends, and she knows their names (even when there are doubles, i.e. more than one Eric, more than one Bryan, etc.)

Help dogs in Detroit get a Thanksgiving Dinner!
Until December 24, the "likes" The Da Vinci Foundation gets on this Facebook post equal an Iams Woof Delights dinner for a homeless dog in Detroit.
I'm actually a little unclear whether you have to "like" the bulldog picture specifically, or just liking The DaVinci Foundation's Facebook page will do it. I liked both, to be on the safe side. Two clicks, a small thing.
I had not heard of The DaVinci Foundation before, but if they're operating in Detroit, their mission to find homes for the homeless is a tall order. In August, the estimate was that there were 50,000 stray dogs in Detroit, and that's a lot of lives to be saved. Detroit has been making headway with its number of abandoned buildings, however, with many having been demolished or auctioned to new owner who will now hopefully make use of them, and this may help shrink the stray dogs problem. There are also plans to have a tremendous urban farm in Detroit, an idea that intrigues and sort of delights me. It's possible that the people who are making such strides in repurposing abandoned urban space will also be able to help make strides with the stray and abandoned dog population.
We can hope, right?

Juke Box, 5 year old female Doberman in Atlantic City, NJ
(I've never used the "embed post" feature from Facebook before, so bear with me.)
The Humane Society of Atlantic County is in Atlantic City, NJ. If you think you might be interested in adopting "Juke Box" (not a bad name for a Jersey Girl, I guess!), the dog pre adoption application is here. There is also some information here about their adoption fees, and the fact that you need to bring state ID and paperwork pertaining to your residence (i.e., if you rent, you must bring your permission to have a pet).
To contact the Humane Society of Atlantic County, their phone number is 609-347-2487 and their email address is info AT hsacpet DOT org.

Doberman Assistance Network: video of 2012 dogs
I can't toot the Doberman Assistance Network's horn enough. They deserve it. They work tirelessly for this breed.
Below is their video from Youtube, reviewing the rescue dogs of 2012. Tearjerker alert: it is to the song "I will remember you".
Of course, they're also well on their way to helping lots of Dobermans in 2013.

Every "Like" Otto gets is $1 for the Doberman Assistance Network!
Otto is evidently a "Doberman Extraordinaire". I can believe it. If you go to his Facebook page to find out, click "Like". If Otto gets up to 1184 likes by 11:59 PM CST on January 20, the Doberman Assistance Network will get $1000!
(he started at 184 "Likes", you see, and whoever is donating will match up to 1000 new "likes")
Have a minute? Have a Facebook? Click "Like" and help Dobermans!

GUND "Top Dog" contest
I was approached this week to share information about GUND's first "Top Dog" contest. I thought it sounded fun, and kind of neat, and agreed to share it with my readership (I love being able to say a thing like that, by the by. Thanks guys!)
Quoted from the email:
Quoted from the email:
Have you ever wished you could immortalize your pet? If so, you are in luck, because today GUND announces the first ever GUND “Top Dog” contest!
Launching July 16th and inspired by the wildly-popular Boo stuffed dog from GUND, the “Top Dog” contest invites pup parents from around the country to submit photos of their own four-footed friends, in one or all of the following four categories:
· Most Beautiful Dog
· Ugliest Dog
· “Doganista” / Best Dressed Dog
· Dog that Most Resembles its Owner
The Grand Prize will have tails wagging; GUND will create a limited edition model of the winner’s dog. The dog will be available in gift and toy stores in 2013. That’s right! Your pup could become a GUND plush just like Boo!
You and your readers may submit their dog photos via the contest tab on GUND’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ GottaGettaGUND), which will be live on Monday, July 16, 2012 at 12:00 a.m. EST. The contest will run July 16, 2012 - August 15, 2012; winners will be chosen the week of August 20th and announced the week of August 27th.
Simultaneously with the Top Dog Contest on Facebook, GUND will run the Most Pinteresting Dog Contest on Pinterest. Consumers will be asked to post their entry on their own pages, “tag” @GUNDMostPinterestingDog and submit the link to GUND at MostPinterestingDog@GUND.com. The Most Pinteresting Dog Contest winner will be selected based on the number of times the entry is “liked” on the GUND Pinterest board and the winner will receive a selection of GUND products valued at $250 retail.
For complete rules, see Top Dog Contest and Most Pinteresting Dog Contest rules at GUND.com.
