Humpty Dumpty, with Illinois Doberman Rescue

Perhaps this is a "too soon" kind of joke, but Humpty Dumpty is a 4 1/2 year old cropped and docked black male Doberman with Illinois Doberman Rescue. He was hospitalized for a full month when they first got him, poor guy!

Please help Maisy, of the Reactive Champion

Maisy, of Reactive Champion is in the ICU. They're not really sure what's wrong with her, and suspect perhaps a bacterial infection or tick borne illness. She's been displaying pain in her neck and hips. So far, she's got two nights of hospital stays , IV's, and other medications and diagnostics under her belt. The current estimate for her care is $3200, and rising.

If you can, please donate to help Maisy and her owner Crystal Thompson out. Crystal is Maisy's owner and the writer of the Reactive Champion blog, which chronicles her efforts with Maisy, her training experiences, and other dog training information that's useful even if you don't have a reactive dog.

Can you believe it? Beau and Mordecai both still need homes.

I've gone back and looked at some of my Tuesday Tails postings (and rescue postings) and realized that Beau and Mordecai are still looking for homes!

Beau is a handsome Doberman (he's named appropriately) who I first mentioned when I posted about Doberman Rescue Minnesota.

Phoenix in Southern Doberman Rescue really needs help (warning, one graphic image at the end of the post)

Southern Doberman Rescue is a 501(c)3 pending organization in Alambama that is working to help Dobermans in the Southeast United States.

Recently, they took in a dog from Alabama who had been dumped in the overnight animal control pen. They don't know how old she is, or how long she's been ill, or even the extent of what's wrong with her. But Phoenix has a horrible case of Demdex mange. Horrible. Remember Manny back in January (if you click that, please be advised the pictures are bad)? She's worse than Manny. Much, much worse.

Southern Doberman Rescue currently has Phoenix at their vet where she can be monitored and treated. In addition to the mange, she has a fungal infection, may or may not have cataracts, and her hearing might be affected. Her feet are dreadfully swollen. She is heartworm negative, so that's one thing gone right for this poor girl. The condition she's in would have had to take months to reach, which makes me sick. I don't know how somebody can allow a dog in their care to get in such a state, and then dump them overnight. Phoenix and SDR could really use any donations you could make in order to help out.

Also, please share her link with her story: Phoenix is in SDR. Getting this info out can hopefully get the rescue and this dog's story the exposure and help they need.

I put a picture of Phoenix behind the cut. Warning, it is a graphic image. she is a picture of neglect, and I debated whether I should include a picture. But this is what can happen, folks. I do apologize if I upset anybody.

Doberman Assistance Network: Fundraising and new cases (warning, pictures are pretty sad)

It happens all too often, I suppose. Two needy Dobermans, Calla Lilly and Godfrey, from two different locations, have come into the Doberman Assistance Network's care. The poor things are able to walk under their own power, but they are all but skin and bones (the pictures are bad; they'll be under the cut at the end of this post, if you'd prefer not to see them).

I will show you this picture, though. Remember Blaise? He has a home now. And looks great!

(Picture from Doberman Assistance Network's Success Stories page)

You can help in a number of ways! On DAN's Sponsorship Page, you can sign up to give a $5 monthly sponsorship. You can also sign up to directly sponsor Calla Lilly or Godfrey's care. There is Gold level sponsorship at $250, Silver sponsorship at $150, and Bronze at $100. Veterinary care comes in at $100, food at $50, or general donations at $25. You can in fact donate any amount, through Paypal, and ever donation helps.

The Doberman Assistance Network also has a General Funds Wishlist on Amazon.com, and those items ordered would go directly to DAN and to Dobermans in need. These items range from toys to medications and shampoos, the kind of thing that every shelter and foster environment needs.

Also, as a reminder, there are 12 days left on the Flower Power Fundraiser. Funds raised for DAN are up to $258, out of a goal $1000. So, if you can, spread the word on that! I also posted about it here last Friday, if you want to share a post that does not include shocking images of Dobermans who have been starved. It isn't for everybody, I know. So why do I include them? As a reminder to myself, and others, that not dogs have all the toys they could ask for, or the treats, or the couches. Not all dogs even have even their most basic needs met, and that is horrible.

So, I'm not going to cue up sappy music and pan through the saddest animal pictures I can find. But I am going to share with you these two, who are in good hands, and on their way to learning about the good life.

Doberman Assistance Network case: Demi (warning: picture is pretty bad)

Demi is a female Doberman afflicted with mange, pulled from a shelter in California. If you'd like to donate for Demi's care specifically, or see who else needs sponsorships, you can visit the Doberman Assistance Network's sponsorship page and click on the handy Paypal buttons.

Also, the Flower Power Fundraiser is still on until April 26. The goal is to raise $1000; the current total is $88.

Picture of Demi is behind the cut, poor little girl.

Made by Meadowcat: Custom Doggie Fleeces

As you know, gentle readers, we do occasionally put clothes on Elka, but only for necessity. She has a hoodie, and a fleece vest, for those occasions when it's super cold, super windy, and her teeth are chattering. Or, sometimes she asks for the hoodie, though she doesn't really have a separate word for that yet. But I digress.

One of the mods on DobermanTalk, Meadowcat, has taken to making fleeces for dogs. It started out just for her own dogs, as so many of these things do, but she's expanded into a small business and is working on getting an Etsy store up. You can visit her Facebook page, Made by Meadowcat, to see both the custom fleece coats that she makes, and also the snoods, though I am sharing just one image below, of Harley, who is owned by a member of Doberman Talk:

They're easy, they're comfy, they're snuggly. Oh, and for orders through the rest of February? Meadowcat is having a "Share the Love" special. Not only is the order 10% off, but 10% of profits this month will go to the Doberman Assistance Network! You can contact her with any questions (and I assume orders) at Madebymeadowcat AT gmail DOT com.

Elka's Swank New Collar!

So.....remember the Ceberus Designs princess collar that was on eBay as a fundraiser for the Doberman Assistance Network?

Well...while the bidding was going on, one of my lovely aunts emailed me about Elka's collar size, claiming that a pet store by her was having some great sales on leather collars, and she wanted to get one for Elka.

Guess who fell for it hook, line, and sinker?

Guess what came in the mail this week?

Yeah, that's right. My lovely Aunt Jen got that collar for Elka!

(Elka is still not thrilled with the red couch)

Doberman Assistance Network Monthly Sponsorship program

Love Dobermans? Want to help Dobermans in need?

The Doberman Assistance Network now has a monthly sponsorship program! For $5 a month, you can help Dobermans in need, and the organization that's working daily to do it. Also on that page, you can donate directly to Blaise's cause (formerly known as Manny, who I've blogged about before) with varying levels of commitment.

Just missed Christmas Etsy fun

I'm told a lot of people do their Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve. Nowadays, I think some stores even have some sooper dooper last minute sales, for those 11th hour gift seekers.

It's certainly too late now to get anything shipped for Christmas, but one could certainly order and print a picture, and then put it in an envelope with a "Watch the mail for....!" card. Right? Or is that weird? Maybe it's weird.

Regardless. Submitted for your approval, more Etsy finds!

(and if you missed it the first time, here were my other Etsy finds)

A Holiday Giving Tree

The Delaware Valley Doberman Pinscher Assistance, inc organization has a virtual holiday giving tree that they put up every year. You can buy lights and ornaments to help decorate the tree, and help Dobermans! They are a 501-3c organization, so these donations are tax deductible (via Paypal, looks like).

Every year, the DVDPA helps Dobermans find new homes!  From their web site:

DVDPA, Inc. was started in 1989. Our group rescues an average of 100 Dobermans each year in the PA, NJ, & Delaware region. We have also helped to place other Doberman by referrals.

Please consider helping the Dobermans in need this holiday season.

Place an order through Zen Paw Creations, help Dobermans!

Zen Paw Creations, on Etsy, has a fantastic offer right now. When you place an order through them, $5 gets donated to the Doberman Assistance Network (when you note it in the order comments, of course, that you're ordering with this in mind).

Perusing the store, she really has some nifty stuff. People who  know me, though, know that I really like jewelry.

So, if there's a dog lover in your life who you think would be thrilled with the double gift of a custom made piece and a donation to help Dobermans in need, consider picking something up for them from the Zen Paw Creations store on Etsy.

eBay Art Auction to Benefit the Doberman Assistance Network

Look here on eBay: another auction to benefit the Doberman Assistance Network!

The proceeds from the auction of this lovely art piece (of a Doberman, of course!) will help DAN pull Dobermans from dangerous situations across the country, get them into rescue and get them into foster situations.

Dobermans in need of rescue does not slow down just because the holiday season is upon us. If the artwork isn't to your taste, but you want to help, you can always fill out an application to foster a Doberman or buy one of the snazzy 2013 calendars that they have available! Paramutt Products is still in business as well, still making paracord collars, keychains, and bracelets that benefit the Doberman Assistance Network.

Please, take a moment to check these things out and see if there's a little extra in your wallet to help out the Dobermans. If there isn't, share this on Facebook, Twitter, etc. and help spread the word about the variety of ways the Doberman Assistance Network can be helped in their mission to save Dobermans in need.

Custom Caricature of Your Dog: Doberman Assistance Network auction

The Doberman Assistance Network has an eBay auction right now for a Custom Caricature of your pet!

The work that they have as examples looks pretty rad!

As always, the proceeds from the auction go to help Dobermans in need across the country. The Doberman Assistance Network works to pull Dobermans out of kill shelters, transport them to foster homes, and much more. Without them, so many Dobermans would be in jeopardy, languishing in shelters, and wondering if they'll ever have a person to love them.

So, if you have some cash to spare, head on over to eBay and give it a bid! Please share this, tweet it, tell your friends who are just as dog (and pet!) crazy as some of the rest of us. The Dobermans thank you.
