Bonnie, with Illinois Doberman Rescue, is SND Senior of the Week

This is Bonnie. She's the Special Needs Dobermans Senior of the Week!

(picture from her Illinois Doberman Rescue page)

Bonnie is a 7 year old cropped and docked red girl who's with Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus.  According to their page, she was surrendered to a shelter when her elderly owner died, and was adopted out. Unfortunately, she and the resident dog were not a good fit, and when her subsequent owners returned her to the shelter, the shelter contacted IDR+.

Chelsea at Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus

I saw this all-natural girl on the Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus Facebook page and had to share! She just blew my mind.

Chelsea is 2 years old, natural ears and tail, black and tan. She was picked up as an underweight stray, and she's blind. But everything about Chelsea is what I love about the Doberman breed! Remember BRAINS and beauty!

Jessie, with Illinois Doberman Rescue

It's hard to pick what Dobermans I include in my Tuesday Tails posts (even when I put them up on Mondays). Jessie's sweet face and airplane ears captivated me this time around. I just want to put my arms around him and feed him and tell him he's a sweet boy.

Humpty Dumpty, with Illinois Doberman Rescue

Perhaps this is a "too soon" kind of joke, but Humpty Dumpty is a 4 1/2 year old cropped and docked black male Doberman with Illinois Doberman Rescue. He was hospitalized for a full month when they first got him, poor guy!

Madison is safe and found, but you can still help her out!

Madison the Doberman mix (I think I saw somebody speculate the might be a Doberman-Kelpie cross?) is going to be staying with Illinois Doberman Rescue for the time being.

She was due to continue transport to Doberman Rescue Alliance Wisconsin, but in her veterinary checkup after she was found, the vet was concerned about her traveling any more. You see, the back injury they knew she had is apparently a broken L-7 vertebrae (like, literally in two pieces broken), and it could be considered a miracle that she still has continence and control of her tail.

Madison is also apparently heartworm positive and their vet has detected which might be an additional murmur. I've written about Doberman heart problems before; being a mix doesn't exempt her from such possibilities, unfortunately.

(picture from IDR Facebook page)

Donations for Madison can be made on her page on the Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus web page, via PayPal. She'll be staying in Illinois, as the vets think she's an excellent candidate for surgery, and they have access to good specialists that work with the rescue.

Good news! Madison was found!

Good news!

Madison has been found. I'd heard earlier, on Doberman Talk, but wanted it to hit the news before it happened. Somebody found Madison and managed to coax her indoors last night, then saw a flyer and called the number. Now she is safe and sound!

January 19 is Illinois Doberman Rescue's Adopt-a-Thon

This sounds like a great event! You get to meet a bunch of dogs at once, which would otherwise be difficult, since IDR has no central "shelter" facility but rather relies on fosters. To check out Illinois Doberman Rescue's adoption policies, you can go here. You can sign up to adopt at the event if you are not already an approved adopter, and if you'd like, you can sign up to volunteer with IDR+!

Some Tuesday Tails Doberman rescue followups

Remember Jasmine? Well, after the bad news with Remmy and Sweetheart, I thought I'd go back through my Tuesday Tails posts and see what the news was on everybody. Jasmine is listed as Adopted on the Illinois Doberman Rescue site now! Congrats to Jasmine! I hope she and her new family spend many happy years together.

Two Dobermans need a home in or near Brooklyn NY: Justice and Jool

In Brooklyn, NY, Justice and Jool hope for homes soon. Their owner passed away, with no family  members and no provisions for their care. They are currently safe, boarding at a veterinarian, but it would be great if they could be adopted in Brooklyn, or someplace nearby! If they cannot, Illinois Doberman Rescue has agreed to take them, but again, it would be better if they could be adopted, together, locally. The point of contact regarding them would be Barbara, whose email is Swift76 AT aol DOT com

Justice is 14 (!) and Jool is 8, and they do need to go together. A lot of people might hesitate to adopt a senior dog, but I'll direct you to read "Reasons to Adopt a Senior Dog", written by Nicole (also known as Meadowcat) about having adopted her senior boy Simon.
