Conversation with the Pizza Delivery Guy

So, we ordered pizza and a sub the other night. It arrived quickly, which was a pleasing surprise in itself. The guy knocked on the door, shave and a haircut, and I went to open it. He told me the total, and as I got my cash ready, he looked past me at Elka, who was by her bed, head down a little, looking towards the door. I hadn't said anything to her when I opened the door, and she didn't make any noise, she was just watching at a good remove and waiting (what a good girl!)

Delivery Guy: Wow, that's a big Doberman.

Me: Yes, she is. *silence* She's just excited that pizza is here.

Delivery Guy: Oh, does she eat Sal's?

Me: Yup! She'll eat a tomato off the sub, or some of the pizza. She loves it.

Delivery Guy: *going through his change* Here, I'll give you five dollars off. You guys order from us a lot. Have a good night!

Me: You too!

  2. Morgan would have barked at the guy, made him come close to wetting his pants and probably gotten us put on the "do not deliver list!" lol I'm pretty sure Direct TV is never coming to our door step again.

  3. @Kari we actually have a long history of me putting her in a down or a sit, across from the door, and me interrupting my conversation with the delivery personnel in order to maintain that. So, that she went to that spot, ish, and stayed was cool.

@houndstooth Elka hardly ever barks. She will if she thinks there are miscreants in the driveway, but an actual car means Friends or Food to her. At least once it was the City's water meter reader, but he pet her and then she paced the kitchen and worried about him while he was in the basement. Though at least one delivery guy took one look at her and stepped out of sight, so that I had to come out onto the porch and finish our transaction. I shudder to think what they have to deal with.

  5. this post and these comments are cracking me up. desmond goes absolutely bonkers and a half whenever the bell rings and the person does not actually come inside. having someone just at the door makes him nuts. he wants to greet them and gets really upset when we hold him back. he'll do this crazy loud whining/yelping/pterodactyl-attack noise, and all delivery people probably hate us. we REALLY need to work on desensitizing him to the doorbell!

    1. It's hard to quell that urge! When friends arrive, they're on their own. They're grownups, and they've known Elka her whole life, I figure they can handle her ministrations!

    1. Well, she's also getting all grown up (3 in may!). Practice, practice. The pizza guy was also nice in general, which was cool. He isn't our "regular" delivery guy, but he is from the place we regularly order from. I assume "Dog at this place" word gets around.

  8. Elka sure is a patient Doggie!!

Me, not so much - even if I hear footsteps I bark - they don't need to ring the bell - but if they do - I bark more! Then I will sit by the door, but once it's open I so want to go and say hello to whoever is there - I can't imagine how my Mum would pay the guy AND carry in the pizza with me around!! :)

Well done Elka - you deserve your treats for sure,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  9. Wowserz, Elka! That's really good! I would be barking as soon as I saw the car pull up in the driveway! :)

    Woofs & hugs, <3
