While we were on vacation, Elka dug her very first hole! She had never done such a thing before, and it was really fun to watch her do it. Of course, she dug a little too close to the surf, and retreated when the waves came in. The first time a wave came in too close, she opened her mouth at it, like "No! My hole!"
LOL! Aww... "My hole!" So cute and so funny. Do you think she's going to start digging in other places now?
ReplyDeleteShe was just so funny!
DeleteShe's never shown indication of wanting to dig before, and our backyard (though sometimes muddy) doesn't resemble the beach in the slightest, so I think we're fine.
I absolutely love it when dogs dig in the sand. There's something so joyful and abandoned about it.
ReplyDeleteIt was great! Sand everywhere!
Delete(and she was more or less fine with getting hosed off, which was a pleasant surprise)
Congratulations Elka on your first proper dig. I hope you'll now go on to be a proper archaeologist like me. My People say they hope (for your family's sake) that you stick to digging in the sand and not the grass (like me).
ReplyDeleteKirsten is right - and it is only my pure unbridled joy that lets me get away with digging up the back garden.
Love and licks, Winnie
Whenever she's in the grass, Elka wants to run around and chase her ball!
DeleteRooo you go Elka! *waggy tail*
ReplyDeleteIt was really exciting!
DeleteI love it when dogs dig big holes at the beach. I've found that if I start digging a hole, my dogs like to nudge in and finish it themselves.
ReplyDeleteI think that's how it started, in fact (I was actually in the water when she began); one of our friends started digging and she just went to!
DeleteNow that she has discovered this talent, might she refine it in her own yard?
ReplyDeleteI doubt it. Everybody always tells us dogs don't generalize well, don't they? ^^
DeleteWe'll see if she remembers that Beach = digging next year!
Too cute! I am glad she had the chance to experiment with another common doggy hobby. It looks like she had fun!
ReplyDeleteShe was just so happy! We all laughed, she was so proud of herself and happy with what was going on.
DeleteI know some people have sand boxes just for their dogs. I'm not sure I'm willing to take that step, though!
Im very happy my pups aren't diggers!
ReplyDeleteStop on by for a visit

Trust me, if Elka decides the yard is the beach, I won't be happy either!
DeleteAh, poor Elka, better luck next time buddy!! I'm impressed, I'm 2 and I still haven't even thought about digging a hole - yet!! :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun,
Your pal Snoopy :)
Maybe your day will come, Snoopy!
DeleteNice dig formation Elka!
ReplyDeleteShe really did have a nice trench going. If we'd done a sand castle, she could have dug the moat!
Deletewhen we do that mom says we are trying to get to China
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
If you get there, be sure to eat lots of great food!
DeleteEvery single thing I do my family goes nuts over....move down the bench SCOTTIE the new dogs in town. Love your blog!!!
ReplyDeleteI like watching dogs dig as long as it's not happening in my yard. Linus is my digger, but he hasn't dug a hole in several years...YAY!
ReplyDeleteColby
Yay, reformed digger!
DeleteReally, Elka is never unsupervised in the yard, so she doesn't get a chance to dig. I've never seen her try, though, other than in the sand!
Maybe there was something good under the sand!
ReplyDeleteOh, maybe. There's little clams, and sand fleas, and things that you can find there.
DeleteShe looks like she's having an awfully good time. Sand is the absolutely best. Of course, those more mollusks must have been wondering what was going on.
ReplyDeleteI think many creatures wonder what's going on when it comes to Elka. Mollusks, birds, cats, squirrels....
DeleteThat's so funny. All I can imagine Elka saying is Noooooooo!!!!! (on slow motion of course). :)
ReplyDelete"Noooo! My hole!" Yup, total slow-mo, with the spray of the ocean catching sunshine in the droplets.
