DDR Mission 6: Learn more about Red and Abby (warning, some super skinny dog pictures)

Distinguished Doberman rescue is dealing with the largest single-rescue operation they've had to, to date. 6 dogs from the same household, at least two of which has Lyme's disease, and most of whom need to be spayed or neutered.

Red and Abby were the first two taken from the house, and apparently Abby is Red's dam. I'm putting their pictures behind the cut, because they may be upsetting; they're super skinny in a few of them.

Sponsorships and donations can be made on their web site, http://www.ddrinc.net/, and you should specify "Sponsor Abby" or "Sponsor Red" in your Paypal instructions. If you prefer to donate via check, address is  PO Box 583 Moon Twp, PA 15108.

Meet our only boy in the bunch - Handsome Red located in Ithaca, NY. Red is 6 years old. He was born on May 7, 2008. He is GREAT with other dogs, even cats. He loooves people & is very good with kids. Two of his favorite things, driving cars and then relaxing on a recliner chair. What a silly boy. At one time he was even owned by a Pittsburgh Steeler player before being returned back to the breeder because of the need for the family to tend to a sick child. Red will be a wonderful addition to any family.

Red was one of the first two we took in as he was very thin & needed to see a vet fast. He did test positive for Lyme, and is now being treated with Doxy. Fecal test results revealed both hook and whip worms. He also required 2 bags of fluid to combat the dehydration. This visit was $200. We received a generous donation of Doxy for his Lyme treatment but we still need to get him a dental and his neuter adding another $200.

This 8 year old beauty was born on October 1, 2006 and is Red’s mom. She was previously spayed as she suffered from Pyometra following a litter. Abby, was amongst the first two to be taken in as she was dangerously thin and dehydrated. She received 2 bags of fluid the very next morning and like Red tested positive for Lyme and is on Doxy for the next 30 days for treatment. Abby is sweet and good with everthing. She’ll be ready for adoption once she had her Dental. Abby’s first vet visit was $200 and we estimate another $200 between her dental and her doxy.

She is settling in to life in her foster home and is quite the cuddler.

*With todays introduction of Abby, during the next 20 hours we are hoping to secure 20 sponsors at only $20 each to help us cover the cost of her $400 vetting. Special Mission 6 Recognition will be given to everyone that has contributed to our Mission 6 Kids (including those of you that have already generously donated following our post about their rescue)

  1. Thank you very much for raising awareness of the need for these poor pups. It's obvious that despite what people have put them through, they remain sweeties.

    1. They do look very sweet, don't they? I hope they recuperate soon, and learn how awesome humans can be!
