I've posted pictures of them before, and thank the good Lord frequently that Elka is not a book chewer. She's not an inappropriate chewer anymore at all, actually (/knock wood).
This latest offering is 61 Hours by Lee Child. The dog owner was doing the right thing by having his dog crated when the dog, a Rottweiler, could not be supervised. However, the dog knocked the crate against the table where the book was, knocked the book off said table, and then drew it into the crate with his paw to have his snack. So good problem solving skills there!
I asked if it was all right to take pictures for my blog, and he said it was fine. We had a good talk about dogs needing mental exercise as well as physical, and I told him about the magic of a frozen peanut butter Kong, even if it's "just" the dog's normal kibble and not anything more treats-y.
I've had my share of puppy chewed books. They always choose the ones I am reading. I guess because they have the fresh scent of me on them.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they want to help draw out the suspense? ;)
DeleteGood advice about the kong! Luckily our Rita is not a chewer, but our last pup nibbled a bunch of books on a shelf within her reach. Appropriately enough, they were all dog books!
ReplyDeleteA lot of the chewed books I see are, in fact, dog books. I guess they're sticking within their topic, right?
DeleteYes, they are incredible when they want to chew something. I had an anxious foster who pulled the entire cover and the foam lining from the couch, which was next to her crate, through the bars of her crate and shredded it! It would have been upsetting if it hadn't been such a wonder to behold :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that must have been something! Sometimes their ingenuity is amazing.
DeleteWhat a genius dog! Our first Aussie was brilliant and chewing that way. The new puppy - oy!
ReplyDeleteChewing is chewing, and it's what they need to do! We just hope they've got enough appropriate stuff.
DeleteVery clever dog! It does sound like a case of boredom to me too. A bored dog is usually a destructive dog.
ReplyDeleteYes, and a bored dog will go to tremendous lengths to be unbored, depending on the energy level!
DeleteAww, poor book.
ReplyDeleteWhen Silas was a wee tiny chap who could barely toddle around, I looked at him and said, "If you chew my books, I'm taking you to the pound." He must have understood, because he never tried, even though I have books right at puppy eye-level all over the house.
Hah, see, every dog is perfect at AT LEAST one thing! I think I had a similar conversation with Elka. She's ripped paper, certainly, but never ever a book.
DeleteHaha - Great mischief! I've been known to chew a few books, but luckily they've not been library books! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy :)
I think books must just smell really good!
