Tuffie Squid, still swimming (.....kind of)

Back in March, I reviewed the Tuffie Toys squid that Elka had been playing with (in short, supervised sessions) since Christmas.

Mr. Squid only has 2 tentacles left. I've sewed him up just once, as Elka chews specifically on the area that's a ring of nylon reinforcing the seams at the "bottom" of the critter, where the tentacles were attached. This is also where I can see how valuable the extra layers Tuffie puts into their toys is; Elka hasn't been able to pull out any of the stuffing.

(it looks like it's saying "Help me.")

When she is not chewing on the squid, Elka is shaking it vigorously, so the remaining tentacles slap her in the face.

She also puts the squid on a couch, and vigorously "dolphin noses" it (i.e., nose punches). It no longer squeaks, so I don't know if she's trying to get it to squeak, or if she just likes nose punching things. Sometimes, she gets a blanket involved, so that the toy is "hiding" and she has to find it. No joke; she puts the toy on the couch, covers it with the blanket (or a pillow) and then "finds" it, all on her own. It is important to note that she doesn't appear to be doing this an excuse to chew the blanket; no new holes have occurred.

The end result of this is good, clean, solo indoor play that results in a puppy who, eventually, is all tuckered out.

I got the Tuffie squid from a toy sample box  (maybe Pets Love Toys?), and thus I did not pay for it (nor am I being paid for this further review), but it definitely looks to be worth the money, which is currently $13.50 on Amazon (about $8 or $9 more than I'm typically willing to casually shell out for a toy, but like I said, this thing has lasted very very well). After the squid finally gives up the ghost, I'll probably buy Elka another one.

Also, check it out, the web site, TuffieToys has a "Dog Park backpack" that looks really cool. It covers pretty much all of the bases when you're thinking of packing yourself up with the dog to go on a walkabout. However, at $40, it may be a bit steep for your budget (I'm still thinking about it).

  5. Now there's a toy I could love. They took away my teddy bear when I sucked the legs and ripped them off. Humans. They don't know how to have fun. Now all I get are these stupid tennis balls. Just when they're getting good - I've yanked off the outer fuzzy stuff and opened it up real nice - they take it away and give me another one. Then I have to start all over again. It's pretty frustrating let me tell you.
