It's been awhile....another chewed library book

It's been awhile since I've had a thoroughly chewed library book come across the counter. But last week, somebody came in with one. Their dog is about a year old, and they're making gestures at leaving the dog out of the crate when they're not home.

The dog really showed some ingenuity, actually. The patron said the book was in the middle of an otherwise empty table, and it was the only thing dog chewed. Also, the cover isn't chewed, and the book is chewed in sections. I try to take these things in good stride, obviously. Elka never chewed any books, thank God, but she did chew things. So I understand. What I said was "That was some good problem solving! Give that dog a job."

  1. For the most part, I'd say Sam isn't a chewer, unless of course something is of extremely sentimental value or is an otherwise irreplaceable item then he will pull it off a bed or wherever he finds it. :( Silly dog. Sigh.

    1. Yup, one thing Elka chewed was a blanket I'd had for years and years. Also, the wall in the kitchen, which had far less sentimental value, at least. As a "grown up" dog, though, she doesn't inappropriately chew any longer (knock wood)

  2. It's been a while since I've had puppies, but they always chewed what smelled like me, things that I had recently handled, like...library books.

  3. Thankfully, Cooper never chewed a library book - that would've caused me so much anxiety! - but he did chew absolutely everything else. Everything. I couldn't even turn to start a pot of coffee before a bite would be taken out of the sofa. With him, I was so glad puppyhood is short...
