Down-Stay Fail, or technology fail?

So, pretty much every time I decide to video Elka doing something, I get her going on the behavior, and she does it just right. Then I realize that I wasn't recording. I shout "No!" to the sky a la Shatner screaming "Kahn!", and then try to get her to do it again.

Does she? Kind of. Or not. It depends.

Really, I can't blame her. The unblinking eye of the camera isn't really a comforting thing for a dog to regard, and when Elka is on the long leash at the park, she wants to go! She wants to frolick, and sniff, and what have you. Not wait for her silly human to get things on record for the interweb.

  1. We never help when the camera is on unless a treat is involved. Have a great Monday.

  2. Hi Y'all!

Just hoppin' by to say "hi".

Hey hey! When I see the camera I get overly excited because it means good and exciting things! Get with the game plan, Elka!

    Y'all come by now,

    1. Yeah, Hawk, I do think I need to spend more time educating Elka regarding the camera!

  3. Yup. Elka's doing the right thing. We perform for you because we love our humans. We don't perform for the camera ... we need to see that treat hand heading to the treat pouch ... Looks like a nice park!

    1. Yeah, clearly "long stay" doesn't equal "treat pouch" to Elka!

It is a nice park. Could be bigger, but it's decent enough ^^

    1. I figured somebody would understand!

Note the appearance of the long line at the end, when I realize belatedly that I should have run it through the short leash that's hooked on my waist.

  5. This is the reason I don't even try to frustrate myself with modern technology, but I admire those of you who do.

    1. My regular ineptitude is kind of embarrassing, really. I got to a certain point with stuff as I was growing up, and then kind of got stuck in the horse latitudes.

  6. Yup! ALWAYS! Or the darn 'digital camera delay', I always miss the shot because of the darn delay! Drives Ma CRAZY! That's why I am tryin' to talk her into gettin' a REAL camera.

    Kisses,

    1. Oh, the digital delay! It's so horrible. On some cameras, I think you can adjust it. Just not mine, of course!

  7. My Mum knows how you feel - her biggest mistake is to leave the sound on (she uses her iPhone to take video) - it makes a bleep as it starts to record which usually stops me in my tracks and I'm more interested in the camera than what I was supposed to be doing! Tee Hee

Any video of Elka is great to see though, planned or not :)

    Wags to all

    1. I think the "camera on" sound just kind of makes Elka sigh at this point.

      Glad you enjoy the videos!

  8. Well she stayed for a bit...lol. Who wants to stay in one place in the park?

    1. Hah, yeah. As I said, the first stay was great, and then I was all "...crap."

The recorded stay, she was all "lol, nvm."

  11. Yup, just have to take more pictures and video. We delete about 99.9 percent. Mostly human error, the dogs are usually spot on!

    1. Hah, some of the total goof pictures I mess around with in photobucket until they look "artsy" and then use them on Wednesdays!

      Shh, don't tell anybody ;)

  12. That's so funny! Sometimes I really want to hire a professional photographer to follow me and Blueberry around so that she just keeps being cute and doesn't stop doing whatever she's doing that makes me turn the camera on in the first place! And yes, I can't tell you how many times I've thought I was taping her antics, only to realize I hadn't pressed the button hard enough and I've been standing there like a complete moron not taping a single thing. It's just unbelievable! ;) Isn't it good to know you aren't alone? lol
