Abbey looking for a forever home!

On August 17, I posted about Abbey, a young female Doberman (mix?) who was sedated and on the euthanization table, but given a last minute second chance. I guess Last Hope Dobermans is the most perfect name for the Texas rescue organization!

That fragment of the Abbey story is a sad one, but the heroics of her pull from the table, and her transport to safety in Oklahoma for foster, is a lovely one. Her initial picture, the only view we had of her, was a sad one as well.

Doesn't she look so much better now? Smiling, with some weight on her. Seeing this picture of her make me so very happy. From the Last Hope Dobermans Rescue Facebook page:

Abbey is a 6 month old Doberman mix puppy.... she was pulled from the shelter in her final seconds of life, actually pulled OFF the euth table by a volunteer who begged for 2 more days. She is now in a OK foster home. She gets spayed next week and will be ready for her forever home! She loves other dogs, to play, is learning her leash manners, is crate trained. If you would like to adopt Abbey, please email DobeMomx2@yahoo.com

From the Last Hope Dobermans web site:
Last Hope Doberman Rescue pulls Dobermans from shelters across Texas, wherever the need arises and places its dogs in foster homes across the state. We adopt to applicants located within a six-hour driving radius of Dallas/Fort Worth.  Our adoption process consists of an adoption application, reference checks, a phone interview, and a home visit, followed by a meet/greet with the dog of interest. Our Adoption Fee is $250. Last Hope Doberman Rescue (LHDR) is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit corporation. Donations made to LHDR may be tax-deductible ~ please consult your tax adviser.

Her Petfinder can be found here. If you or somebody you know would love a sweet little girl like Abbey, riding high on her second chance, email DobeMomx2@yahoo.com

  3. I hate that he adoption fee is so much and that they have so many rules to adopt. I think rescues miss the boat at times. She was nearly euthanized. Honestly any placement would be a good one for that dog.

    1. Adoption fees for breed rescues do seem a bit much sometimes. However, the dog that is received has been spayed or neutered, and fully inoculated. I think Elka's spay was around $250, so I doubt that they even break even.

    1. Isn't that the truth. It would also seem, the more of these stories that I read, that dogs are so willing to accept them, and forgive.
